Is anyone able to shed some light on what happened the swap rates overnight last night?

The 1-5 year rates dropped roughly 20bps to 30bps today. This brings the rates back to where they were back in April(ish) this year when Home Loan borrowing was substantially cheaper.

Swap rates can fluctuate due to a variety of factors, including changes in interest rates, inflation expectations, market volatility, and economic indicators.

In the case of the recent drop in 1-5 year swap rates that you mentioned, it’s difficult to pinpoint the exact cause without more specific information. However, some potential influences could include changes in the demand for fixed-rate borrowing, shifts in central bank policies, or broader economic trends.

Sometimes, swap rate movements can also be driven by technical factors, like trading volume, liquidity, and market positioning. Large trades or actions by major market participants can influence rates.

Implementing effective risk management for dealing with swap rates is crucial for investors to protect their portfolios and financial stability. Here are some key strategies and considerations for managing risk associated with swap rates, diversification, monitoring economic indicators, hedging, etc.

For the most accurate and up-to-date information, I would recommend checking financial news sources or consulting with a financial advisor.
